Flagship First: Philly Gets Swanky New Seats

Get Ready to Jet Set in Style, Philly! American Airlines Unveils Flagship Suites on Transatlantic Flights

Dreaming of strolling along the Thames in London or exploring the charming streets of Zurich? Well, Philly travelers, get ready to elevate your journey! According to a recent report in the Philadelphia Business Journal, American Airlines, the biggest carrier at our very own Philadelphia International Airport (PHL), is set to debut its brand-new Flagship Suite premium seating on select transatlantic flights this summer.

Imagine settling into your own private haven in the sky. These aren't your average business class seats! The Flagship Suites, coming to PHL on new Boeing 787-9 aircraft, boast some seriously swanky features. We're talking about your very own privacy door – hello, undisturbed naps! Plus, you'll have dedicated personal storage space to keep your essentials handy, a convenient wireless charging pad to keep your devices powered up, and even a chaise lounge seating option complete with an adjustable headrest pillow for ultimate relaxation. Talk about flying in comfort!

Starting August 6th, you can experience these luxurious suites on the daily route between Philadelphia (PHL) and London Heathrow Airport (LHR). Shortly after, on September 3rd, the Flagship Suites will also grace the flights between PHL and Zurich Airport (ZRH) in Switzerland. This is fantastic news for Philadelphians looking for a more comfortable and private way to cross the pond.

But the pampering doesn't stop with the seat itself. Flagship Suite passengers will also be treated to an in-flight, multi-course meal thoughtfully paired with select wines, a luxurious amenity kit filled with skincare goodies, and a cozy duvet blanket with a clever dual-sided pillow (traditional fabric on one side, cooling on the other – genius!).

And the VIP treatment extends beyond the flight. Flagship Suite customers will enjoy priority check-in, security, boarding, and baggage handling, making your airport experience smoother than ever. Plus, you'll gain access to American's exclusive Flagship Lounge, and excitingly, PHL is getting its very own in Terminal A-West this summer – one of only a few worldwide!

While the Philadelphia Business Journal noted an August round-trip flight between Philly and London in a premium Flagship Business seat was listed at $4,285 on American's website as of Friday, the enhanced comfort and amenities might just be worth the splurge for that special trip.

Philadelphia is truly becoming a major transatlantic gateway, with American Airlines offering nonstop service to a whopping 17 destinations across the Atlantic this summer, including the exciting new routes to Edinburgh, Scotland, and Milan, Italy, launching on May 23rd. With nearly 20 million passengers passing through PHL in 2024, it's clear that our city loves to travel!

Adding to the inflight experience, American is also partnering with West Chester-based QVC Group to bring original shows from QVC+ and HSN+ streaming platforms onboard. So you can catch up on "Busy This Week" or "Getting Grilled with Curtis Stone" while you fly. Plus, for those heading back from London and Paris, American is testing a delightful new afternoon tea service in all cabins – think finger sandwiches, scones, and all the trimmings!

With these exciting upgrades, American Airlines is making those long-haul flights from Philadelphia something to truly look forward to. So, start planning your European adventure and get ready to experience a new level of comfort and luxury in the skies!
